Felt and embroidery piece!!!!!! from the upcoming show Big Rock Candy Mountain from April 3, 2009 through May 10, 2009. Big Rock Candy Mountain is a familiar American Folk Song which describes a perfect world as imagined by hobos traveling the country during the early part of the 20th Century. The lyrics to this song express the humble aspirations of homeless and poverty-ridden people during the Great Depression. The imaginary place called Big Rock Candy Mountain represents the joyful setting where the singers wishes, no matter how modest or unrealistic, become real. The works featured in this exhibition address the artists colorful, fantastical, and dreamlike narratives.
